Redemption Vol.4
Redemption Vol.4

(Texte disponible uniquement en anglais) Sticking to in-house producers and artists this compilation album represents the rebirth of the Ruff Ryders. While showcasing the newest acquisitions such as the songbird Aja who is more "street" than syrupy R&B, west coast representative Kartoon, Pirate the reggaeton linguist and Flashy from "the bricks" of New Jersey, they solidify the moniker alongside the veteran mercenary wordsmiths The Lox, Drag-On and DMX. Leading the movement, the lyrical tag team Infra Red & Cross paint murals of project- consciousness alongside Styles P, Bunny Wailer and Snypah on "Ghetto Children." Over a Shawn C and L.V. produced track that blends the sounds of NY with Jamaican riddims, they reinforce the voice of struggle and give strength to hustlers in the trenches who lost their way. "The Redemption" is the Ruff Ryders resurgence to the mainstream. However, Co-CEO Wah would be the first to tell you they never went anywhere. Despite the speculation, the Ruff Ryders have been making an imprint daily in the place that matters to them the most—the community. From an industry standpoint they have been absent but due to their dog, car and bike clubs under the umbrella of their Ruff Ryders Lifestyle organization, they have been omnipresent in major cities across the United States. More importantly they have been reinforcing the movement by helping those in need—proving that their lifestyle is parallel to their art.

The test of a man is measured by how well he takes life’s numerous bumps and blows. For the past two and a half years the Ruff Ryders have been through many tests. Having encountered life threatening personal battles, artist incarceration, retirement rumors, roster changes, big business politics and a fickle market that can easily bury a rap career, the Double R imprint still remains emblazoned in concrete.

Why?

The brainchild of the Dean family stays afloat because what they’ve created is not just a label. If you haven’t noticed by now—it’s a movement. Ask the lady that resembles your grandmother rocking a “Ride or Die” baby tee serving food at a charity cookout or the eight year old with Double R platinum decals on his mini-motorcycle driving illegally on the sidewalk. It’s a lifestyle—a lifestyle that doesn’t wait for the cameras to turn on. It forces them to look. That’s why Jadakiss’ line of questioning in the blazing single “Why,” caused the Fed’s ears to perk up—proving that when the streets start talking the world has to listen.
As the town criers of the newly founded “Republic of the Streets”, the Ruff Ryders ignore the haters and continue to carry the weight of the “silver spoon less” on their appropriately titled fourth offering, “The Redemption”.
